Key to Calendar

Blood and ultrasound = blood test for hormone levels and transvaginal ultrasound to measure follicle development in ovaries.

R = Recipient woman

D = Egg donor

Lupron = subcutaneous injection of a medication called Lupron. Taken once daily.

FSH = subcutaneous injection of a medication containing follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), which causes growth and egg development in women. The donor takes this.

HCG injection = intramuscular injection of a medication called Human Chorionic Gonadotrophinc, produced by developing pregnancy. The donor takes this.

Estrogen = pills or skin patches containing estrogen. Used to develop a proper lining in the recipient woman's uterus.

Progesterone = vaginal cream or suppositories or intramuscular injection of a medication called progesterone, which helps to prepare a receptive uterine lining for embryo implantation.

Note: The calendar shown above is an example of how the cycle stimulation may evolve. It is possible that the ovarian stimulation process on the egg donor would be shorter or longer than that shown above. The example above shows 9 days of stimulation (FSH shots). The average number of days of taking the FSH injections is 10, with the general range being about 8-13.
IMPORTANT: In order to use the donors listed in our database, you have to become an established patient at the San Diego Fertility Center.
